The great Outer Beach described by Thoreau in the 1800's is protected within the national seashore. Forty miles of pristine sandy beach, marshes, ponds, and uplands support diverse species. Lighthouses, cultural landscapes, and wild cranberry bogs offer a glimpse of Cape Cod's past and continuing ways of life. Swimming beaches and walking and biking trails beckon today's visitors.

Parking lots are open 6 AM to midnight, daily, year-round.

The Salt Pond Visitor Center, located at 50 Nauset Road, Eastham, is open from 9 AM to 4:30 PM daily (closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day), year-round, with extended hours during from late spring through early fall. The Province Lands Visitor Center, located at 171 Race Point Road, Provincetown, is open from 9 AM to 5 PM daily, from May 1 to mid-October. Park Headquarters, located on Marconi Station Road, Wellfleet, is open weekdays, except holidays, 8 AM to 4:30 PM. While it is primarily an administrative facility, it contains an exhibit about Guglielmo Marconi and his history-making transatlantic wireless message in 1903.

The park's six beaches have lifeguards on duty from late June until Labor Day.

Restrooms at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham and Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown are open year-round. Other restrooms in the park are open seasonally from late spring to early fall.
